CF and XF low decks and new predictive shifting: DAF 25 September 2014

Apart from the widely trailed quiet CF distribution truck, DAF is using the IAA Commercial Vehicle show in Hanover this week (25 September to 2 October) to launch new CF and XF Low Deck tractors and new predictive cruise control with predictive shift to further optimise truck fuel efficiency.

DAF's new Low Deck tractors have a fifth wheel height of 91cm (down from 96cm), achieved by fitting low-profile tyres (315/45/R22.5) and adapting the air suspension.

As a result, with the European maximum vehicle height of 4 metres, trailers with an internal height of a full 3 metres can now be used, allowing volumes of more than 100m3 for maximum transport efficiency.

That will particularly appeal to hauliers in the automotive sector where one-metre high standardised containers are in common use.

These new DAF CF and XF Low Deck tractors are also available with air suspension on the front axle, but a DAF is also offering a new single-leaf parabolic suspension system.

Additionally, DAF claims that its new roof deflector for the XF Low Deck with Super Space Cab improves aerodynamics, leading to a 1.5% saving in fuel and CO2 emissions.

Turning to its predictive cruise control and gear shifting technology, this option will be available in January 2015 on Euro 6 CF and XF models with the automated AS Tronic 12 speed gearbox.

Predictive Cruise Control uses GPS technology to determine the exact position of the vehicle and the driving horizon for the next 1—2km, anticipating slopes and descents.

The driver sets the desired speed and allowed deviation, with three pre-programmed options. Predictive Cruise Control then determines the ideal speed and Predictive Shifting selects the appropriate gear – aiming for as high as possible.

On its massive stand, with a theme of 'Always the right solution', DAF is also showing its full range of Euro 6 trucks.
