Chereau boxes clever with lightweighting strategy25 April 2019

Chereau will be demonstrating the progress of its Inogam Evo multi-year product evolution strategy at next week’s Commercial Vehicle Show (NEC; 30 April to 2 May).

The strategy is due for completion later this year but has already resulted in a redesign of the Chereau bodywork and chassis, improving payload and saving up to 400kg on a three-axle semi-trailer.

The chassis lightening is made possible by a full redesign and use of high yield strength steel, along with aluminium inserts on bodywork.

The programme also involves replacing many components to save weight, and improve ergonomics and safety. Chereau has integrated a new galvanised steel pallet box (pictured) with a bolted design, as well as new LED rear lights with scrolling function, new LED work lights with integrated reversing function, and a permanent brake for the movable partition.

Visitors can also find out more about ROAD (refrigerated optimized advanced design), a collaborative project led by Chereau which aims to deliver a refrigerated semi-trailer powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

The vehicle is being manufactured and will undertake real-world testing from June this year.
