Chesapeake chooses MAN TGX trucks for fleet renewal 30 January 2013

Specialist packaging designer and manufacturer, Chesapeake, has taken delivery of 11 MAN TGX 24.440 6x2 tractor units.

The trucks replace five-year-old MAN TGA tractors, and were selected following a thorough whole-life-cost tendering exercise, which pitted MAN against most of its major competitors as well as contract hire companies.

All 11 tractor units have been supplied on five-year R&M contracts, and fitted with MAN EcoStyle driver performance telematics.

Long experience of high reliability with MAN was the determining factor for Chesapeake, after what Paul Oakey, UK logistics manager, describes as "a very competitive tender process".

Says Oakey: "We've run MAN trucks since the mid-80s and we know they're just about the most reliable truck available. We've also relied on our local MAN dealer, Jeffreys – with whom we've built a strong partnership.

"With MAN able to put together an attractive whole-life acquisition package, the decision to stay with them was made easier."

And he adds: "I'm very keen to realise the full potential of MAN EcoStyle. We had basic telemetry on the TGAs, but the technology has advanced so much I see real possibilities to trim the fuel bill and maximise productivity."
