City Link takes delivery of 171 trailers01 April 2014

Logistics business City Link has placed two orders with commercial fleet services company Fraikin for 85 single-deck and 86 double-decker trailers.

City Link will use the 85 Lawrence David single-deck trailers for inter-urban deliveries.

This latest deal follows its earlier order for 86 double-deckers for night trunking operations. All 171 were supplied on full service contract hire, with 24/7 breakdown cover.

Eighty of the Lawrence David curtainsiders are new additions to the fleet. The trailers are on a 12-week maintenance cycle: the double-deckers are serviced during the daytime and the single deck trailers enter the workshop overnight to ensure maximum fleet availability.

Bob Powner, City Link's UK processing and transport director, says Fraikin "pledged a lot" with the initial double-decker order and lived up to the promise.

"We were delighted to source a further 85 single-deck trailers from them as they provide us with business certainty," he says.

"We can also rely on them for service, which is critical when we have a target to clear a minimum of 99.75% of deliveries within the allotted timescale," he continues.

"Fraikin keeps us on the move and ensures we get great value for money; plus we know exactly what our fleet will cost us for the duration of the contract."
