Civil engineering firm logs on to lower fuel costs and emissions20 May 2014

Civil engineering firm Blu-3 (UK) is rolling out a tracking and diagnostics solution for its 125-strong fleet, in a bid to boost its Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) status from bronze to silver.

The solution, WebFleet from TomTom Telematics, will cover all of London-based Blu-3's vehicles, from cars to 32-tonne rigid trucks, and will help the engineering business to reduce fuel costs and emissions.

The system's ecoPLUS fuel diagnostic device reads fuel consumption data directly from the vehicle to provide data on CO2 emissions, and insights into individual and fleet mpg.

This information, together with data on speeding, harsh braking and steering, is fed back to managers who can identify which drivers need coaching.

Engine trouble code alerts are notified to Blu-3's fleet department in real time, helping reduce maintenance costs and improve driver safety.

"Monitoring of key performance indicators holds the key to reducing our carbon footprint," says Matthew Bennett, Blu-3's transport manager.

"TomTom Telematics' advanced, future-proofed technology... sealed our decision to invest."
