Clancy boosts fleet with first Euro 6 Iveco 8x4 rigids04 February 2016

Clancy Plant Hire has taken delivery of the first of a 33-strong order for Iveco Trakker 8x4 rigids – the first Euro 6 eight-wheelers to enter the operator’s fleet.

The vehicles were all specified with Iveco’s 360bhp Cursor 9 engine, delivering up to 1,650 Nm of torque between 1,200 and 1,500 rpm, and driving through the ZF EuroTronic automated gearbox.

Thompsons is building the bodies for the entire order, with each vehicle being equipped with an HMF truck-mounted crane. The new additions also have bespoke on-board camera safety systems and audible warning systems.

“We evaluated Euro 6 solutions from a number of manufacturers, but felt Iveco’s Hi-SCR [high-efficiency selective catalytic reduction] system stood out for offering a less complex and yet a highly efficient approach,” explains Clancy director Bernie Stack.

“We have become accustomed to enjoying trouble-free performance from our Iveco drivelines, so knowing the Hi-SCR technology has followed the same development path as earlier Iveco Euro 4 and Euro 5 engines held strong appeal.”

The trucks join a fleet of more than 60 Iveco Trakker 8x4s and are expected to be in service for four or five years, clocking up 35,000 miles each per year.

Servicing, maintenance and warranty work will be carried out at Clancy’s authorised in-house Iveco workshops.

The rest of the order will be delivered in the first quarter of 2016 from Iveco dealer Northern Commercials.
