Coatings firm on board with Bevan21 Fuso10 October 2013

Carmarthenshire-based AV Coatings has taken delivery of a 7.5-tonne Fuso Canter, with a body built and equipped by Bevan Group.

The new vehicle enables AV Coatings to transport and apply protective polyurea and polyurethane coatings directly from the truck, and replaces a 3.5-tonne truck which towed a separate generator.

The Bevan21 box body is designed to reduce wind resistance while maintaining cubic load volumes. Features include a curved roof and a moulded air deflector and cab collar. The streamlined body, also available as a curtainsider, can improve fuel efficiency by 15% or more.

Manufactured from lightweight Ecofont GRP panels at Bevan's West Midlands factory, the truck body has three compartments with single and double doors. The vehicle carries a small compressor and spraying machine, with a generator in a separate sound-deadened compartment. Up to four 45-gallon drums of the coating product can be transported and are stowed towards the rear.

"Not only did Bevan build our body, but it also supplied the racking, fitted the tuckaway tail-lift, and designed and applied the vehicle's eye-catching livery," says AV Coatings' director Ian Rigden.

The Mercedez-Benz Canter 7C18 chassis was supplied by Swansea-based dealer Euro Commercials (South Wales). Powered by a fuel-efficient 175 hp engine, it has a payload of 3,210kg.

As the on-board equipment is permanently bolted in place, the Canter is classified as a service vehicle so is not subject to an Operator's Licence.
