Latest addition to Veolia is no rubbish 07 January 2010

Volvo has furnished Veolia with a diesel-electric hybrid dustcart as part of a two-year trial with Westminster City Council.

Using an electrically-powered compactor body, built by Geesink Norba, the truck is the third of its kind in operation – the other two being located in Gothenburg and Stockholm, Sweden.

It also increases the number of hybrid vehicles in London, joining six diesel electric buses already operating in the capital.

The Swedish manufacturer claims its dustcart will help achieve a 30% reduction in fuel usage and emissions, using electrical power to move off, while the diesel engine is engaged at higher speeds.
