Commercial vehicle production down by 25% in June - SMMT25 July 2014

Commercial vehicle manufacturing output fell by 25% in June and 23% over the first half of this year, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Production for both home and export markets was affected, although output is expected to stabilise in the second half of this year.

"UK commercial vehicle manufacturing figures continue to be swayed by operational restructuring in 2013 and the pull-forward of demand in the heavy commercial sector," says Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.

"There are signs of optimism, however, with double-digit growth in European commercial vehicle registrations, and the emergence of new products and investments across the sector."

Output for the UK market fell from 3,674 units in June 2013 to 3,054 in June 2014 (-17%), while export output fell by almost 32%, from 4,833 in June 2013 to 3,294 in June 2014.
