Latest fleet management system promises to save thousands28 January 2010

A real-time, web-based fleet management solution for builders' merchants and construction site suppliers has been developed by Travis Perkins, with Masternaut Three X.

The first phase of implementation has been completed and Travis Perkins claims to have already saved hundreds of thousands of pounds by cutting out engine idling.

Using Masternaut Three X's GreenerFleet solution, and VisuLive 'business intelligence' software, the system monitors more than 1,300 commercial vehicles.

Transport managers get real-time visibility, via the Travis Perkins intranet, to the fleet and can pick out specific vehicles to gauge their performance and control how they are being used.

"Environmental responsibility is a high agenda item for Travis Perkins," says Graham Bellman, group head of transport, Travis Perkins.

"Our aim is to minimise idling and improve our overall fleet efficiency. The Masternaut system is enabling this and we are making remarkable savings on fuel usage."

Bellman says that it is the company's intention to be the industry leader in the use of innovative technology to reduce carbon footprint, and to improve the fleet and thereby enhance customer service.
