First company announced for braking02 March 2010

SDC Trailers is the first to be granted type approval to the new UN-ECE braking regulations, which become mandatory in 2012.

Granted by the VCA, the type approval applies to all its semi-trailers fitted with roll stability systems (RSS), which offer extra safety thanks to the on-board monitoring of the trailer's movements, via accelerometers and wheel speed sensors.

SDC Trailers says that all customers now have the option to add the approved braking system to their trailers, if they have requested fitting of its RSS.

"Being the first to gain braking type approval is a major milestone for us," comments Mark Cuskeran, managing director of SDC Trailers. "We've successfully completed a full brake approval test on one of our trailers, fitted with EBS – including roll stability."

"I'm delighted to say that we're now able to offer our customers the option of enhanced safety on all of their trailers. With this optional extra, they will receive better stability, an integrated emergency relay function and improved brake response times."
