Centrebus takes a dozen Solos for new services 24 February 2010

Fast-growing independent Centrebus has put a dozen Optare Solos into service at depots in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Six are the 2.33 metre wide SlimLine model, chosen to cope with narrow lanes and parking congestion on housing estates. They are 8.8 metres long, with a seating capacity of 28. The other six are full width 9.5 metre variants that can seat 33.

All 12 are powered by Euro 5 compliant MAN DO834 EEV engines, rated at 132kW (177bhp), using EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) technology. These have been matched to Allison 2100 Series five-speed auto transmissions with CAN electronic interface and lock-up torque converters in 3, 4 and 5 for fuel efficiency.

Seats throughout are Esteban Civic VOs and all the buses have been fitted with Mobitec LED destination equipment.

David Shelley, commercial director at Centrebus, says: "We are delighted to have taken delivery of these buses from Optare on time. Our customers are enjoying the benefits of modern, low-floor, low-emission vehicles. Feedback has already been very positive."
