Michelin, Volvo embark on innovative tyre research29 January 2010

French tyre manufacturer Michelin has announced that it will step up its cooperation with Volvo Trucks in the search for more energy efficient and environmentally friendly tyres, based on Michelin's low rolling resistance radials.

"With this agreement, Michelin will provide Volvo with innovations that improve transport company performance, while also protecting the environment," comments Pete Selleck, president of Michelin's worldwide truck tyre business and member of the Group Executive Council.

Newly purchased Volvo trucks currently run on Michelin's Energy tyre range, which claims to improve fuel consumption by up to 2l/100km, while also enhancing safety performance and tread life.

Volvo and Michelin hope that the new collaboration programme will enable these figures to fall further.

The announcement comes as Michelin and Volvo signed a contract extension to their deal that sees the former as the preferred original equipment supplier for Volvo trucks.

The deal covers vehicles that are built by Volvo in North America, South America, Europe and now includes Turkey. It covers the Volvo Trucks, Volvo Buses, Renault Trucks and Mack Trucks trade names.
