Wales’ oldest brewery tops up its Scania fleet22 February 2010

Wales' oldest operational brewery has taken delivery of three new Scania four-wheel rigid distribution trucks with Bevan curtainsider bodies, from Scania dealership Silurian Scania.

The Felinfoel Brewery Company of Felinfoel, near Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, says it acquired the trucks through Scania Finance on five year full contract hire agreements, as part of its rolling fleet replacement programme.

All of the vehicles are low chassis height Scania P 235 DB 4x2 MLA trucks, with Scania CP16 day-cabs. Each is powered by a 230hp, 1,050 Nm torque Scania DC9-16 Euro 5 EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) engine, driving through an eight-speed Scania G875 gearbox.

"We already operate an entirely Scania fleet and remain convinced that [they] are best-suited to our operations, especially in terms of reliability, performance over the demanding local terrain and service from Silurian," says Felinfoel Brewery's finance director Philip Lewis.

He also cites the Bevan curtainsider arrangement, which allows the curtains to be fastened with quick release buckles fixed to the side raves and mounted internally. That protects them from fouling by road dirt and allows fast access to the load – and leaves a clear expanse of curtain for the operator's livery.
