Supertrucks wins the space race 19 January 2010
This month marks the launch of the production version of Supertrucks' low-loading Citröen Relay-based Space van.
The new vehicle offers extra loading convenience to the dry freight sector through two operational variants.
In standard format, the van has a load deck height of 550mm and a step height of 370mm, while with the optional air suspension version, the load deck height drops to just 370mm and the step height, 190mm.
Key development work has been undertaken by the Supertrucks team, since the van was proposed in prototype form in the middle of 2009. On the exterior, the van offers a revised moulded Luton head, as well as a redesigned moulded cab-to-body collar, which provides a more efficient seal.
The drop-frame chassis also now features aluminium outriggers in place of steel, bringing a 16kg weight saving.
The main Space Van body is a one-piece, high gloss white grp side wall affair, bonded to an aluminium frame. Another one-piece structure is the roof, which is carried on alloy cross bearers and allows maximum internal light.
