Continental shift extends operator’s mileages 14 January 2010

Les Smith Haulage has reported great gains in tyre life on its Mercedes-Benz Axor two-axle 18 tonners thanks to a change in tyre supplier. Since switching the 18-strong fleet from an unnamed premium manufacturer to run on Continental HSR1s and HSR2 on the front axle, the company has reported a 25% increase in mileages.

This improvement means that the tyres are accumulating more than 100,000km before replacements are needed. On the rear axle's wheels, it is a similar story as HDR2s have replaced HDR+ tyres, and now provide service of up to 400,000km.

The great distances achieved by the Continental tyres have been helped by careful inspection and monitoring of the tyres on a daily basis, as well as six-week checks carried out at the local Mercedes-Benz dealership.
