Boden’s takes five new Volvo trucks for waste wood haulage 04 January 2011

Manchester-based waste wood recycler Boden's Wood Waste Recycling has added five new Volvo FH-500 6x2 tractor units, all plated for 44 tonnes gcw, to its existing Volvo fleet.

Steve Austin, transport operations manager for Boden's, explains that the trucks were highly specified, with the 500bhp Euro 5 SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology engines, matched to I-Shift automated transmissions, and the Globetrotter XL cab.

"Due to the nature of our business, we needed trucks with a bit of bite. We chose the FH-500s because they are an exceptional machine and the back-up service and maintenance from Volvo is excellent," says Austin.

"With Volvo, we don't have to worry about our vehicles and can instead focus on our core business," he adds.

The new Volvo trucks are all part of Boden's four-year vehicle replacement plan, and were supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercial, which has been supplying the company for more than 20 years.

Commenting on his choice of supplier, Austin states: "[Thomas Hardie] works around our schedule, collecting our vehicles from the depot at the end of the day and getting them back to us in the early hours, which then enables us to maximise vehicle usage without affecting our delivery schedule."
