Munich expects 30% less CO2: from first MAN hybrid city bus 01 June 2010

Munich Transportation Company (MVG) is the first metropolis in Europe to put the first MAN Lion's City Hybrid bus into service, with an expectation of up to 30% less CO2 emissions.

MAN says that this year will see more buses of this type being put into use in Hagen, Germany, as well as Paris, Barcelona, Milan, Vienna and several cities in the Netherlands.

Like other hybrids, the MAN Lion's City Hybrid harnesses kinetic energy from braking to assist the drive, and there is also an automatic start-stop system that scores highly in city buses applications, which spend between 25 and 40% of operating time idling at bus stops or red traffic lights.

"Our new MAN Lion's City Hybrid enables us to help protect the climate and free city centres of exhaust fumes and noise," comments Bernd Maierhofer, who looks after R&D and purchasing at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG. "This bus is the foundation for our future developments in eMobility for buses and trucks."
