Isuzu 11 tonner does the work of two trucks, says Stoddart 08 December 2010

Brampton based Stoddart's Fuels is reporting that its new Isuzu 11 tonner does the work of two trucks and provides for a bigger and better payload potential.

Managing director Trevor Stoddart says he wanted a truck with greater payload capacity than his normal 7.5 tonners, yet compact enough for accessibility when delivering coal throughout Cumbria.

"Accessibility is a key issue for us, because we deliver to so many customers that are located where the majority of heavier trucks simply can't go," explains Stoddart.

"The 11 tonner is not much bigger in overall size than Isuzu's 7.5 tonners and yet it gives a vastly increased payload of slightly over 7 tonnes, which makes all the difference to us," he adds.

Stoddart also reckons that not only his new 11 tonne Isuzu now doing the work previously handled by two vehicles, but fuel consumption is averaging 1mpg "which is perfectly acceptable when you consider the arduous terrain".

Isuzu dealer Cumbria Truck Centre in Carlisle supplied the vehicle – a hexapod cabbed Isuzu Forward F110.210 11 tonne, 4x2 rigid, working with a local bodybuilder to achieve the lowest possible height –just 20mm higher than on the 7.5 tonner. As for the rest, the truck has been, fitted with a six-speed manual transmission and has a 19ft aluminium flatbed body.

Says Stoddart: "The original 7.5 tonner has now completed over 80,000 miles in its first four years … and it has cost us virtually nothing, in terms of maintenance. Its overall reliability and impressive payload, even for a 7.5 tonner, just cannot be faulted and, in truth, these were the main reasons why we specified Isuzu again."
