TOM goes for more MAN conversions09 August 2010

TOM Vehicle Rental, the Lanarkshire-based commercial vehicle rental and repair firm, has added a new MAN TGX 18.480BL 6x2 wrecker chassis to its fleet.

The vehicle received a third-axle conversion and is now rated for 76 tonne gvw operation.

A further 45 MANs are on order for programmed delivery later this year – all as fleet additions, and comprising tractor units, and 18, 12 and 7.5 tonne rigids and tipper chassis.

Robert Stewart, commercial director at TOM Airdrie, explains that the vehicles are scheduled for conversion work at the firm's on-site engineering facility, JWR Coachworks.

"It's not just the quality of MAN's trucks," he says. "It's the aftersales support from MAN Truck & Bus Bellshill… We have MAN-trained technicians and partsmen, and this further cements that team ethic.

"We also lease a MANcats diagnostic machine from MAN at Bellshill for our own workshop, and an impressed parts stock. This level of dedication from our truck manufacturing partner, ensures our customers do not experience … significant downtime."
