Don-Bur announces major workshop investment15 July 2010

Two additional workshops are to be constructed by Don-Bur at its Stoke-on-Trent headquarters, as part of a £1 million investment.

The work has been commissioned to help the company deal with increased demand for teardrops, both trailers and rigids, according to David Burton, managing director at Don-Bur.

The firm, previously known for providing operators typically with niche products, is now reaping the rewards of such products becoming increasingly popular. Fleet managers are keen to make efficiency gains and cost savings, and teardrop designs are seen to provide major benefits, he says.

The first stage of development is a 10m-high high building with 1,500m2 of floor space, and nine 5m-high bay doors and six 2-tonne travelling cranes. The second stage will include a covered storage area for weather sensitive items, such as flooring and shutter components.

"We have been at full capacity for over 12 months now and, despite 24hr shifts, product lead times were consistently growing," reveals Burton.

"Initially, plans were held off in case the surge in demand was temporary, but the trend showed no signs of slowing and we had to increase manufacturing capacity," he adds.

"Operators now demand more cube, better fill ratios, faster loading and unloading, and more aerodynamic solutions; solutions we excel at providing," insists Burton.
