Container benefits from longest ever Edbro telescopic cylinders 24 June 2011

Metals recycling specialist Dunn Bros' new horizontal container ejection loader depends on telescopic cylinders from Edbro, which, at a 12.5m stroke, are the largest ever produced by the British company.

"With the horizontal loader we have solved a major problem in our industry," says Steve Drew, sales manager of Dunn Bros.

The problem had been how to load export containers with scrap metals – especially difficult materials, such as cables – a fast, efficiently and safely, and without being under or overweight.

"If they are underweight, the exporter loses money; if they are overweight, then the containers are returned unshipped," explains Drew.

"The system can payback its initial cost in as little as six-months; it only requires one man to operate – saving the cost of an additional operative, loads up to four containers an hour, with no risk of damage to containers, and is extremely safe in operation," he adds.

"This is an unusual application for our RK cylinders, but one that really demonstrates their performance and reliability," comments Peter Angell, Edbro's sales manager

"The RK cylinders are ideally suited to this application, having proven themselves on mobile refuse vehicles and ejector trailers. The lightweight design also offers weight saving, reliability and durability, with fit-and forget performance," he continues.
