Costa Rica diesel plant gets Goldhofer heavy haulage treatment 21 December 2011

Specialist heavy haulage trailer manufacturer Goldhofer has helped transport around 45,000 tonnes of machinery for a 200MW power plant in Costa Rica.

Operating on behalf of international heavy-haulage firm Dako Group, Goldhofer's 18 axle THP/SL heavy-duty trailer handled a load which included 11 diesel motors – each weighing 325 tonnes – and was in use continuously for several months.

"Goldhofer trailers are well known for their reliability and endurance in even the most extreme of conditions," comments Ivan Collins, sales director of Andover Trailers, Goldhofer's distributor in the UK and Ireland, "and there's no doubt that this equipment was put to the test."

According to Collins, Costa Rica's infrastructure is not particularly well developed and lacks roads or bridges that can bear such heavy loads, so the amount of planning to find a safe route was "astonishing".

The trailer itself was fitted with eight tyres per axle, hydraulic axle compensation of 300mm and high axle/concentrated load.

It was powered by two heavy-duty Mercedez-Benz tractor units, which worked in tandem by pushing and pulling the trailer to its destination.
