The 26-tonners have a Geesinknorba GPMIV body with combi split bin lift, and were ordered as part of the council’s fleet standardisation programme.
The tender process considered vehicle design and reliability, maintenance and servicing, and manufacturer support.
“We are very comfortable that the combination we have chosen, a Geesinknorba body on a Mercedes Econic chassis, gives us a robust and reliable vehicle,” says Simon Smith, Dacorum council’s transport manager.
The RCVs are going into service in north-west Hertfordshire this month, on trade, domestic and green waste collection duties.
Geesinknorba and Mercedes-Benz are providing initial and ongoing training for drivers, loaders and technicians. In addition, two Geesinknorba engineers will spend time with the council’s workshop technicians to familiarise them with the maintenance of the vehicles.
