Council picks up seven Orion Plus buses 10 December 2019

Durham County Council has taken delivery of its first vehicles from bus maker Mellor, with a seven-strong order for the Orion Plus low-floor bus.

The new additions will mostly be used as accessible welfare vehicles – a key benefit with the Orion Plus, as it has an adaptable interior. The council specified the buses with a 16-seat configuration to allow for wheelchair access, but they can seat up to 22 passengers.

Chris Prince, the council’s strategic fleet team manager, says: “We awarded the business to Mellor following a competitive tender process. The vehicles meet all our size, layout and specification requirements.

“We have heard great things about the reliability, adaptability and fuel efficiency of the Orion Plus, so had no hesitation in placing our first order with Mellor.”
