Crewe’s Chamberlain chooses MAN tractor units 06 August 2012

Chamberlain Transport has taken delivery of an MAN drawbar unit to service its Railcare contract.

The Crewe, Cheshire-based operator's new truck – a TGS 26.400 6x2 rigid – has been equipped with a FASSI F310 crane and will pull a seven-metre, flat-bed three-axle trailer.

Chamberlain has also ordered 12 MAN TGX 26.440 6x2 tractor units, with XLX cabs, for delivery over the next 12 months – a mix of fleet additions and replacements.

The operator runs 22 MAN trucks and has a total fleet of 35 vehicles. All have been equipped with MAN fleet management systems, including MAN EcoStyle, MAN's own web-based driver monitoring tool.

"We were pleased that MAN adopted a close working relationship with us to draw up such a precise drawbar specification," comments managing director Simon Chamberlain.

"We were traditionally an ERF operator but moved away when the brand ceased production," he continues. "We went to the market for new Euro 4 and Euro 5 vehicles, and trialled an MAN in 2007 through Beech's Garage. [We] have never looked back."

The new drawbar and trailer combination is being operated exclusively on Chamberlian Transport's contract with Railcare, based in Wolverton, Milton Keynes.

The company repairs and overhauls train axles, bogies and wheel-sets, and the new MAN truck will run to and from steel works, oil refineries and freight terminals throughout the UK.
