Cummins lifts the lid on fully electric tractor05 September 2017

Engine maker Cummins has unveiled a fully electric Class 7 concept truck, dubbed the Urban Hauler Tractor, which features a lighter, denser battery design for improved range and faster charging.

The vehicle design also includes an engine-generator option for extended range – taking it from 100 to 300 miles – allowing users to benefit from Cummins B4.5 or B6.7 engines and, says Cummins, delivering a major advantage over today’s hybrid systems. These engine options offer 50% fuel savings compared to current diesel hybrids with zero emissions.

The truck was unveiled at an event last week (31 August) in the US, at which Cummins also revealed plans to offer a new heavy-duty diesel engine in 2022 and showcased a ‘near-zero’ natural gas engine, along with the X15 and X12 diesel engines offering longer service intervals.
