Currie European Transport signs up for 25 Volvo FH-500s 29 October 2010

A deal to supply 25 Volvo FH-500 tractor units has been signed by the Swedish manufacturer and Currie European Transport.

The contract is the largest order for heavy trucks by Currie, and comes after a Fuelwatch programme was run by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre, North & Scotland on the transport company's existing fleet.

All Currie's FH-500 6x2 tractors have the Globetrotter XL cab, and are equipped with I-Shift automated transmission and Volvo Dynafleet telematics.

They have also been acquired on a Volvo Flexi contract hire programme, set at a two-year term, with a break-out option at 12 months. The R&M includes tyres and annual mileages are expected to be around 160,000 km.

"This business is driven by efficiency and service levels. It's our philosophy and I expect it to be that of my suppliers too," comments Currie chief exec Tom Barrie.

"Our transport operation needs a long-term partner who can provide the full package of product and service at the right price. Volvo has delivered that," he adds.

The total number of vehicles on the Currie fleet now stands at 35.
