CV registrations surge towards five-year record06 December 2013

Registrations of commercial vehicles rose strongly in November, up more than 22% month on month, and the market is on course to achieve its best result in five years, according to the SMMT.

For the year to date, total CV registrations are up by almost 11% and, with 294,991 units registered already, look set to top the 300,000 mark for the first time since 2008.

Both vans and trucks continue to outperform market expectations. Month on month, vans rose by almost 20% in November, with trucks increasing by almost 40%.

"The November commercial vehicle market rose 22.7%, continuing the strong upward momentum we've seen over the past four months," says Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.

"With engine technology developments driving up the truck market – plus van owners and operators responding positively to this year's economic recovery – the sector is on course for its best performance in five years."
