CV Show 2014 opens today at the NEC, Birmingham 29 April 2014

The CV Show (29 April to 1 May 2014) is now open at the NEC, Birmingham, with headline acts including Citroen, Ford, Isuzu, Iveco, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault Trucks, Vauxhall, as well as hundreds more transport and workshop specialists, many of which are unveiling new products.

Shell is unveiling the results of its independent Fuel Matters 2014 study, looking into the fuel management practices of more than 200 haulage operators.

Expect some surprises – not so much that driver behaviour is key to fuel economy, but that fleet managers need more resources – money and people – to make the most of underpinning telematics technology. The report is available from the euroShell card stand.

Allports Truck Centre, the Renault Trucks-authorised distributor for Lichfield and Stoke-on-Trent, is showing a Renault Trucks Range T tractor and a bodied Range D rigid, alongside two Deker trailers, which the firm also represents in the UK. Allports managing director Paul Sanders says there's more to the Euro-6 Renault Trucks than meets the eye.

Michelin Solutions is lauching at the CV Show, with a programme aimed at helping truck, bus and coach fleets "radically reduce fuel consumption". Called Effifuel by Michelin, it brings together a range of fuel-saving measures to help operators reduce and contain their fuel consumption.

Bodybuilder Cartwright is showing its latest trailer design – a straight frame curtainsider compliant to EN 1246XL, with the company's new roof-suspended load restraint system.

Texa is focusing on its new developments for vehicle and system coverage in its IDC4 diagnostics operating software, which extends coverage across a wide range of vehicle applications. Check out the firm's course offering, too, which include Selective Catalytic Reduction, Commercial Vehicle Common Rail Systems, and a new Trailer EBS course.

CANM8 is demonstrating how it can customise CANbus systems – including its CANM8 Cannect system, which enables users to receive software updates and technical support – while also launching a Runlock system for the Mercedes Sprinter and a left-turn warning device control system.

Clarks Vehicle Conversions is showing its AutoClarks M7 – a seven-seat welfare conversion of the new Ford Transit, with heating, a seating area, messing facilities and a toilet. The firm says the arrival of the new Ford Transit signals a wave of developments at Clarks that will see a lighter weight conversion for improved fuel economy and reduced payload.

Somerstotalkare is featuring the company's best-selling cable-free lifts, and the latest addition to its product line-up: a four post fixed lift, electromechanical PL250-8 which has a 25-tonne capacity and an 8 metre platform.

Doyles Commercial Body Building is showing its Aduro, Doyles' flagship vehicle conversion, delivering a payload of 1,495kg – not bad on a 3.5-tonner. Bodies are made of lightweight, recyclable, composite materials and deliver a fuel consumption of 32.7mpg.

And Stoneridge is revealing a new digital tachograph, the SE5000 Exakt Duo2, which goes beyond the One Minute Rule and real-time updates on drive and rest times, with features such as configurable POA (period of availability) and Working Time Directive calculations.
