DAF unveils new-generation CF and XF at CV Show26 April 2017

DAF has unveiled the new-generation CF and XF tractors, promising 7% better fuel consumption and increased payload.

Launched yesterday (25 April) at the CV Show, in Birmingham, the new trucks boast several new features which, says DAF, will give operators “the lowest operating cost and the highest uptime”.

Improved Paccar MX-11 and MX-13 engines drive through a new TraXon automated transmission – 12-speed as standard, with a 16-speed option – with the top-of-the-range MX-13 producing 530bhp and 2,600Nm of torque at 1,000 rpm.

Engine air management is boosted with a new turbocharger, new EGR system and a new valve actuation design. Also, a new combustion system, including new pistons, injectors and injection strategies, improves thermal efficiency.

New rear axle designs have been further developed and reductions of down to 2.05:1 can be specified for cruising speeds of 85kph at between 1,000 and 1,040 rpm, depending on driveline choice. The rear axle differentials have a new design of crown wheel and pinion, for improved durability and lower noise levels.

The engine brake increases braking power by between 20% and 30%, and engine service intervals have been extended to 200,000km.

The exhaust after-treatment system is 40% smaller and 50kg lighter – together with engine and chassis weight improvements, this gives the CF and XF 100kg more payload.

Fuel efficiency is also boosted by aerodynamic features, including a redesigned sun visor and better airflow around and under the cab.

The cab interior has a new trim, an HVAC system which can use residual heat from the engine for short periods, upgraded instrument panel and dashboard layout, and plug and play driver preferences.

A leather steering wheel comes as standard on both versions, while an Exclusive Line upgrade includes leather seats and coloured dashboard.

The new CF and XF go into production this summer, starting with a 4x2 tractor and rigid, followed by 6x2 variants.
