The service package, which the truck maker calls “a holistic ecosystem”, will also include installation of charging infrastructure. As well as individual consulting, the e-mobility group is launching digital applications designed to help operators assess the viability of electric vehicles.
The company says the ecosystem package will focus initially on Europe, North America and Japan.
At the start of 2020, it plans to launch the eTruck Ready app, which records route information, including speed, acceleration and altitude. Fleet managers can then add parameters such as payload and outside temperature, to see if the vehicle could be replaced by an electric truck from the Daimler portfolio.
The data calculated by the app can also be used by the e-mobility consulting team to assist with possible route optimisation for electric trucks, cost analysis and customised charging solutions.
Gesa Reimelt, head of e-mobility group for Daimler Trucks & Buses, says the new service will offer “the ideal entry into e-mobility”.
“Our battery-electric trucks are already undergoing extensive practical trials around the world. Thanks to the close exchange with our customers, we understood early on the need to think far beyond the e-vehicle.
“That is why we offer an ecosystem tailored to the use case and needs of customers, including consulting and charging infrastructure solutions.”
The group began small-series production of the all-electric Fuso eCanter light duty truck in 2017 and says more than 140 are in operation. The Mercedes-Benz eActros is undergoing real-world trials in Germany and Switzerland.
