Dash-cams to reach one million mark in the UK 19 March 2015

Sales of font-facing cameras and journey recorders are set to hit one million in the UK, according to developer SmartWitness, which is preparing for “the busiest-ever Commercial Vehicle Show”.

The company, has been selling the systems in the UK since 2009, says that increasing numbers of professional drivers are relying on dash-cams to improve their driving and save on their insurance premiums.

It cites a recent survey from the Road Haulage Association, which found that 54% of Britain's fleets are now using journey recorders while 35% were close to doing so.

SmartWitness international sales director Mark Berry says the firm will be showing KP1 – "the world's most powerful 3G/4G instant video transmission camera" – at the CV Show (14—16 April, NEC).

It will also demonstrate the SVC100GPS best seller and SVC1080LCA – a new version.

"What was previously seen as a niche product is now becoming an everyday part of every motorist's routine," states Berry.

Visitors to the CV Show can also find out about SmartWitness's new partnerships with telematic firms Navman Wireless and TomTom Telematics.
