Daventry transport charity picks up first Mellor vehicle10 October 2018

Daventry Action Community Transport (DACT) has taken delivery of a Tucana II, from Mellor, following a successful trial.

Based on the Volkswagen Transporter chassis, the 15-seater Tucana II features a rapid sliding door and two manual rear doors, with access to the fold-out ramp.

Crucially for the charity, the vehicle’s low weight means its volunteer drivers do not need specialist licences, despite the often heavy equipment needed to transport passengers with limited mobility.

Rob Kinning, chief executive for DACT, says: “This is the first time we have done business with Mellor. We needed a good 15-seater passenger vehicle which can be driven on a standard category B licence and still able to carry passengers in wheelchairs. The VW Tucana, with low-floor entry, fits the bill very well.”
