Dearman begins vehicle trials of next-gen liquid nitrogen engine 01 December 2015

Dearman Engine has announced that it has begun on-vehicle testing of its Generation 2 zero-emission transport refrigeration system.

The system is powered by liquid nitrogen Dearman engine, which replaces the standard diesel engine, and which produces no NOx or particulate matter (PM).

The Generation 2 is a redesigned version of Dearman’s first model, which began testing earlier this year. The redesign is said to be 30% lighter, 30% smaller, and 30% more efficient than its predecessor.

The company has worked with its technology partner Hubbard Products to reconfigure the refrigeration system, including downsizing components for better efficiency and performance.

The Generation 2 is being tested with support from Horiba MIRA and a commercial, on-road field trial will begin with a UK operator in 2016.

Last week (27 November), Dearman was recognised at the Business Green Technology Awards. It picked up a highly commended in the breakthrough technology category, while Toby Peters, Dearman’s chief executive, won the Innovator of the Year award.
