Derek Fox Timber invests in Volvo FM 500 19 October 2010

The first Volvo FM 500 6x4 rigid to be sold in the north-west of England has been delivered to Preston-based timber merchants Derek Fox Timber.

Purchased from local Volvo dealership Thomas Hardie Commercials, the 500bhp truck comes laden with advanced technologies and components designed to improve comfort and safety.

The new vehicle boasts an I-Shift automated transmission system, a Globetrotter cab, leather seats, alloy wheels and a Kelsa HiBar and Eurobar. A tri-axle drawbar trailer has been supplied by M&G for coupling to the FM 500. The trailer features a specially fitted Epsilon crane and is plated at 44 GCW. It also features bespoke paintwork on the cab and chassis, courtesy of Chorley-based Thomas Hardie Engineering.

Garry Fox, managing director of Derek Fox Timber, says, "Forestry work is very different to construction sites or warehousing; we needed something with plenty of grip and power. The FM 500 gives us just that, as well as excellent comfort and driveability."
