Deutsche Bahn picks MAN for deal worth up to 190 million euros01 August 2014

Germany's largest bus operator DB Regio Bus, part of Deutsche Bahn, has signed an agreement with MAN Truck & Bus for up to 815 new vehicles over the next four years.

The eye-watering deal, said to be worth up to 190 million euros, comprises 435 city and intercity buses in 2015 and 2016, with an option for 380 more in 2017 and 2018.

All vehicles will be Euro 6 and cover MAN's Lion City, Lion City Ü and Lion City G/GÜ types in various vehicle lengths and in easy access, low-floor versions.

The buses also feature topography-dependent gearbox control, to cut fuel and emissions. This system automatically selects the most efficient gearshift programme, depending on whether the vehicle is travelling on an uphill or downhill stretch.

DB Regio Bus manages the regional bus and urban transport operations of Deutsche Bahn, which already uses 2,000 MAN and Neoplan vehicles across the country.
