Devon pie maker rates CoolKit for fridge vans25 September 2018

Pie and pasty maker Chunk Of Devon has taken delivery of a third Renault Master temperature-controlled van from CoolKit, citing the van converter’s customer service as key to securing the deal.

The operator, based in Ottery St Mary, also selected the vehicle for its size, payload and movable bulkhead, allowing the van to be equipped with a combined fridge and freezer unit.

The latest addition also has a GAH super rapier refrigeration unit including overnight standby, PVC strip curtains to both side and rear entrance, LED interior lighting, a pallet protection pack, reversing camera and a Hope Safe T-bar.

Most of the operator’s pies, pasties and savoury snacks are delivered to customers within 80 miles of its factory, although some are transported further afield to sites such as Wimbledon, Wembley and Lord’s cricket ground.

“We needed the capacity to be able to transport large amounts of goods. Each of the Renault Masters fits 950kg in the back – that’s around 3,000 baked pies or pasties,” says Simon Baker (pictured), general manager.

“In some cases we have been able to deliver more stock in fewer journeys than our previous vehicles. The new vehicles are much more efficient, and don’t cost much to maintain either.”

Baker adds that CoolKit’s personal touch when it came to sourcing another vehicle clinched the deal: “We went with CoolKit because we knew we could trust them.”
