Don’t be frozen out with wrong antifreeze26 November 2013

Commercial fleet drivers and operators must ensure that vehicles are prepared properly for winter, including choosing the correct antifreeze.

That's the warning from Intertruck, CV aftermarket supplier, which warns that buying on price alone could cost more in the long run.

"In the winter, antifreeze acts as a vital component in ensuring that vehicles continue to perform in adverse conditions, but the antifreeze bought has to be fit for purpose," says Intertruck's Glen Crompton.

"Investing in a high-performance, long-life solution that is designed to meet the specific demands of the CV market can save money and time further down the line."

Intertruck is working with Polygard maker Miswa to convey the message that not all antifreezes are the same. Using incorrect or wrongly diluted antifreeze can lead to engines overheating, corrosion within the cooling system and cracked cylinder heads.

The British Technical Council advises operators to always use the recommended coolant standard and, in the absence of this information, to choose one that meets at least BS6580 (1992) and/or ASTM D3306 standard.
