Draft standards for bus, coach and HGV technicians ready for consultation 01 April 2015

The bus, coach and HGV trailblazer, set up by the government late last year to develop standards for apprentice technicians, has released three draft standards for consultation.

The three are for: bus and coach technician; motor vehicle service and maintenance technician (heavy vehicle); and bus and coach engineering manager.

All three are now live on the People1st website at http://www.people1st.co.uk/Apprenticeship-services/Apprenticeship-Trailblazers/Bus,-coach-HGV.

The organiser for this trailblazer round – the Society of Operations Engineers, which includes the IRTE – is urging all those interested to access the consultation, read through the standards and complete the questionnaire, which is available as a word document download.

Once completed, participants are urged to email their completed questionnaires to trailblazer@people1st.co.uk for consolidation and review by the trailblazer.

Response is required for a range of organisations and employers, particularly smaller employers, to confirm that the standards will work for the industry in the future.

Initial closing date is 8 April 2014, at which point the feedback will be analysed and reported back to the trailblazer.

Consultation will then recommence once the trailblazer has revised the documents as necessary.
