Drive with caution: UK deadliest roads revealed24 July 2018

The A6 between Luton and Cumbria has topped the list of Britain’s most dangerous roads, accounting for 70 fatalities between 2012 and 2016.

The A5, connecting London to Holyhead, was found to be the second most hazardous road, with 67 fatal accidents, closely followed by the A40 from London to Fishguard, with 65 fatalities.

This data is now available for fleet operators to view in map form, enabling them to adjust routes if necessary.

Teletrac Navman has produced a map (click link below) showing the riskiest roads, based on data for 2012-2016 from the Department of Transport and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

In total, there were more than 8,500 fatal traffic accidents in the period. The map also highlights the most dangerous counties: Rutland, in the East Midlands, had the highest rate of fatal traffic accidents at 5.181 per 10,000 residents.

The safest area was Scotland’s smallest county, Clackmannanshire, with no recorded fatalities.

Peter Millichap, UK marketing director at Teletrac Navman, says: “When operating a fleet, driver safety is extremely high on the agenda. As such, knowing which stretches of road are the most dangerous can help operators reduce the risk of accidents by adjusting their routes or schedules accordingly.

“This informative map, together with today’s telematics technology, provides fleet operators with greater visibility and access to powerful fleet management tools that go a long way toward monitoring its safety and efficiency on the road.”
