Dumfries & Galloway selects Ctrack for telematics14 November 2014

Dumfries & Galloway Council has awarded a four-year contract to Ctrack for fleet-wide vehicle tracking systems, which it expects to generate operating efficiencies, as well as health and safety, and environmental improvements.

Under the agreement, web-based Ctrack Online will be used on more than 600 vehicles, including cars, vans, HGVs and buses, as well as its gritters, sweepers and RCVs (refuse collection vehicles).

Councillor Colin Smyth, chairman of the Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, says the contract was awarded following competitive tender, and that the new telematics will replace an existing system.

"Using advanced communications technology, this vehicle tracking system will enable us to be more efficient and responsible," states Smyth.

"It will reduce fuel use, minimise carbon emissions, protect staff and provide enhanced service levels, meeting our fleet needs now and in the future."

In particular, the tracking solution will include driver ID to provide greater insight into the status and whereabouts of mobile employees historically or in real-time. Meanwhile, lone workers will be provided with panic alarms to enable them to operate safely in isolated or unfamiliar locations.
