Dutch logistics firm finds ‘significant’ fuel saving with Fuelmax20 February 2015

Dutch transport business Snel Logistics Solutions is carrying out a tyre trial for Goodyear, which has already revealed a fuel saving of one litre per 100km for the Fuelmax tyres.

Snel operates a regular shuttle route between the towns of Spa and Weert with four Euro 5 Scania R400s, and this provides a useful test route.

"Every day the vehicles travel between the two locations, always using the same route with the same drivers," explains fleet manager Peter Snel.

"It is the ideal test scenario. It is also recognised as such by truck manufacturers, who have asked us to test their Euro 6 vehicles," Snel adds.

For the trial, two tractors were equipped with Goodyear Fuelmax S on the steer axle and Fuelmax D on the drive axle, with the other two tractors fitted with an alternative tyre brand.

Over the last 12 months, each vehicle has covered 145,000km. The test is ongoing but early results are clear, says Snel.

"What is true so far is that the trucks with the new Goodyear tyres are best with regards to fuel consumption in this test," he says, describing the difference of one litre less fuel per 100km as "significant".
