DVSA trials body cameras for roadside enforcement officers28 March 2019

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has completed its first trial of body cameras for its roadside enforcement staff.

“While the majority of people we see at the roadside are polite and considerate, a small number can be aggressive and threatening towards our examiners,” explains Matt Baker, enforcement delivery manager.

“They give lorry drivers a bad name.”

DVSA says the first trial has been a success: “They’ve allowed us to capture and deter abuse against our enforcement staff, including physical violence and verbal aggression,” says Baker.

A second trial is now underway, the results of which will be assessed before DVSA decides whether to issue the body cams to all enforcement staff.
