E-ON fleet powered by new Transit Custom vans21 October 2013

Energy company E.ON has expanded its 2,000-strong fleet with 118 Ford Transit Custom vans for use by its meter fitters.

The new vehicles are all 310 short wheelbase models with a 100PS 2.2 TDCi power unit. Each will undergo conversion by Qi Van Systems – including special racking in the load area, Trakm8 telematics and an AVI alarm system – before going into service.

The vehicles are the first in the E-ON fleet to go through the new Whole Vehicle Type Approval 'enhancement' scheme, which covers conversions and the addition of after-market equipment.

The vehicles feature Ford's ECOnetic technologies such as auto-start-stop and smart regenerative charging, delivering fuel performance from 46.3mpg. The Transit Custom has a load-through hatch in the bulkhead for carrying long items and an integrated roof rack which can be folded away when not in use.

The van has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
