East Riding Council selects Ctrack for specialist vehicle tracking 23 November 2012

East Riding Council says it expects to boost performance on more than 600 municipal vehicles covering waste management, street cleaning and highway maintenance, following installation of new tracking systems.

John Skidmore, head of Streetscene Services at East Riding, says Ctrack's solution will help better control and utilise the vehicles and their operatives, and so reduce fleet operating costs.

Ctrack's Telematics, he explains, will cover in-vehicle sensors recording activation and operation of equipment and systems, such as bin lifts, sweeper brushes and reverse gear selection. And the company is to provide a portable version to track hired or short-term vehicles.

In particular, he says the council will target more jobs per vehicle per day to reduce fuel and labour costs, while also working to right-siz the vehicle fleet and avoid unnecessary hire costs.

"The operation of specialist vehicles represents a considerable cost not only in terms of procurement but also ongoing operation," states Skidmore.

"We have teamed up with Ctrack to make the most of our available assets and workforce to maximise service delivery, whilst delivering cost savings and measurable efficiencies in these tough times of austerity."

The Ctrack system will also incorporate a driver ID solution with 'dallas' keys issued to 1,500 employees to provide insight into vehicle operators' activities.

Each vehicle will be fitted with a driver ID reader and operators will scan their keys each time they commence work.
