Eaton’s latest heavy-duty clutch family doubles service intervals 19 October 2010

Service intervals and warranty up to twice the current norms are being claimed by Eaton for its next generation heavy-duty clutches – 50,000-mile service intervals and two-year, unlimited mileage aftermarket warranty.

John Beering, vice president and general manager of Eaton's clutch and aftermarket division, says that the new clutches are available now for new truck orders and through the aftermarket.

He explains that they are 15.5-inch heavy-duty units, with an enhanced release bearing design based on a more robust bushing material. The release bearing housing is also new, having three grease fittings that allow for flexibility in setting up a lubrication path, regardless of the release fork design.

It also has: a more efficient grease reservoir (hence the extended grease intervals); new composite slingers that retain grease better and prevent contamination; a new casting design; and wider thrust plates.

Beering says that Eaton will continue offering two options, with the new manually adjusted Eaton Easy Pedal Advantage clutch replacing the former Eaton Easy Pedal units, while its self-adjusting Eaton Solo Advantage clutch replaces the Solo.

"We developed our new clutches to help ensure consistent, trouble-free and long lasting service that is well reflected with the new service intervals and new warranty coverage that we can now offer our customers," comments Beering.

"It is also important to note that a premium Eaton clutch is the perfect match for a premium Eaton transmission," he adds. "Specifying the two will go a long way to bringing about optimum driveline performance, reliability and durability."
