Eberspaecher bioethanol electric vehicle heater breakthrough 19 July 2011

With the world's first pure bioethanol vehicle heater, Eberspaecher says it is offering a virtually CO2-neutral solution for heating electric vehicles – one that doesn't restrict their range.

Despite all the euphoria surrounding e-vehicles, no-one wants to freeze in winter, even in an electric van. Without a combustion engine, however, no waste heat is produced – so it has to be heated.

However, if this is done electrically, the additional power requirement reduces the range of the vehicle by up to 50%. Enter Eberspaecher, with its innovative fuel heater that uses environmentally-friendly bioethanol and so doesn't affect the range.

Eberspaecher says that its Hydronic 2 Economy type E4S water heater is virtually CO2-neutral. And a further plus is the soot-free combustion of bioethanol.

Exhaust gas emissions are reduced, at approximately 90% below statutory standards. In addition, the heater is fuel-efficient: on average, the Hydronic E4S requires between 0.4 and 0.5 litres of bioethanol per hour.
