EH Smith builds on efficiency with Keyfuels card system08 July 2015

Builders’ merchant EH Smith is reporting significant savings since consolidating its fuel-buying and moved its entire fleet to Keyfuels.

The Shirley-based company moved part of its supply from bunkered tanks to a card-based system in 2005. Since then, it has grown from eight to 12 sites, so needed a more robust solution.

Such was the scope and flexibility of the Keyfuels option that, 18 months ago, EH Smith decided to move its entire 60-strong fleet to Keyfuels.

Andy Webb (pictured), director of production for EH Smith, explains: "It was Keyfuels' range of services that won us over – a key feature being the fact that the card allowed us access to Tesco petrol stations."

The move to the card system did require more careful route mapping, but Webb says this wasn't onerous: "If you consider that before 2005 we didn't even run fuel cards for our vehicle fleet, then it was really only a minor hurdle to overcome and the benefits of the Keyfuels proposition has made the move a worthwhile one."

EH Smith buys around 17,000 litres of fuel each week via Keyfuels' virtual bunker. With the card-based system, the company can monitor fuel spend more easily and has eliminated the safety issues of on-site tanks.

Keyfuels monitors stock balances and cash flow around-the-clock, with stock balances emailed each day to EH Smith.
