Electric light cargo truck costs 2p per mile to run 18 November 2010

A compact all-electric delivery vehicle, with ranges from 112 to 300 miles, top speed of 46mph and 400kg payload, has been launched by Elecscoot.

Costing from £7,995, the light cargo truck is optionally available with left hand drive for safe kerbside delivery and collection operations, and costs around 2p per mile to run.

Interestingly the three-wheel vehicle has a turning radius of just 4.5m, and is being sold as a light duty machine for applications such as city goods deliveries, contractors and tradesmen's vehicles.

Says Ian Allison, Elecscoot managing director: "Our electric scooter business has taught us that the best way to provide a fleet-ready vehicle is to have complete control over the drive line and battery management system.

"We built it, so we know how to provide the best technical support and after-sales service for it."

Elecscoot is opening a new 21,000sq ft assembly facility in Consett, County Durham, to produce the E-Truck. Allison says he will look after direct sales to fleets and is looking for dealers.
